We acknowledge that the Pihêsiwin ᐱᐦᐁᓯᐏᐣ ward we reside in is located within Treaty Six Territory. Treaty Six Territory is the homeland for the diverse First Nations Peoples and their ancestors, such as the nêhiyaw ᓀᐦᐃᔭᐤ (neh-HEE-oh / Cree), Dene (deh-NEH), Anishinaabe ᐊᓂᔑᓈᐯ (ah-nish-in-ah-bay) / Plains Ojibwe, Îyethka / Nakoda / Nakota / Stoney / Assiniboine (na-koh-tah / ah-sin-ne-bow-een), and Niitsitapi ᖹᐟᒧᐧᒣᑯ / Blackfoot (nee-it-see-tah-peh) peoples. Alongside, this land is also to the home of the Métis (may-tee), as well as one of the largest communities of Inuit (in-you-it) south of the 60th parallel. It cannot be overstated that the impacts of colonialism have been profound and lasting on Indigenous Peoples of this land. We are committed to honour and respect their histories, languages, traditions, and cultures as we work towards truth and reconciliation, and work to build a better future together.
